Message:   Hi,
I am a resident alien for tax purposes on a H-1B visa. My wife holds a H4 visa ( she does not work or has any taxable income worldwide). We filed tax return this year under the "married filing jointly" category.Currently I claim 0 allowances in my W-4 form.

How many allowances can I claim? I saw the online IRS W-4 form and it looks like I can claim the following:-

1 :since no one can claim me as a dependent

1 : since we have only one job and spouse does not work.

1 :for my spouse.

Looks like I can claim 3 allowances. Could you pls. clarify.

Also I live in Minnesota. What are the allowances for the state taxes.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards,
RG
