Capital gains on stock sales are not taxable to a nonresident alien who was not present in the US for at least 183 days during the year. Dividends paid on US stock are taxable, and the rate is generally 30% unless a lower treaty rate applies. If the proper amount of tax is withheld from your dividend you are not required to file a US tax return unless you have other US source income.
