Childers - Old Tish Co, MS

I am searching for records regarding a John Ellison Childers (b.1831-TN) that fought in the Civil War. Family folklore has it that he fought and never returned home to his wife (Mary Patterson Bonds), who remarried in 1862 to John C Rhodes.

The sticky part is finding where he signed up. Possibilities include MS, TN, and GA. If you have any information, please email me privately at djbwain@yahoo.com.
