Recent Visit to MDAH

I recently made a return visit to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History in Jackson.

Once again I was delighted to open Record Group 9 and handle some of the original documents of the 26th Miss. Currently there are seven folders with the records of organization for Cos. B, C, D, E, F, H & K. These are the final "muster out" records compiled in 1865 containing the following info: names, rank, enlistment date, state born, occupation, residence at enlistment, age at enlistment, marital status, engagements participated in, and other remarks. There is also a company history.

Age of the documents and the preservation method make them very difficult to read, but it's a thrill to personally examine these invaluable pieces of history.

For more info on the MDAH, go to http://www.mdah.state.ms.us/.
