Dear Justin,
Thank you for your second delivery of material for the O.D.s website and for your second email. Your words brought back happy memories to me of Durlston - especially at this time of the year when we used to celebrate Harvest Festival with a fine display of goodies which we used to take round to retired D.C. staff and domestic workers in the neighbourhood. Hearty singing of, 'We plough the fields and scatter' etc.
I enjoyed the account of your reunion. I recognised Peter Boon in one of the pictures. He was one of the 'Dean and Chapter' (lads that helped the Chaplain). I remember that he used to colour in blue the very top corner of any pages that he considered he had done very well.
I think you are right that IDO will not be pleased at some of your memories! However, I hope that some other O.D.s will write with happier memories of him. I don't remember the food being too bad but then we did have resident staff suppers in the evening to compensate.
Best wishes and thanks, Peter Yerburgh (P.Y.) |
