Friend Hidden made some remarks concerning the Union websites, that I believe should be clarified.
The Town Office website is the instrument of the Union administration, and supplies ample information to the Union citizens. Because of the efficiency and professionalism of the webmaster, we stopped duplicating news information. We no longer post committee meeting and Selectmen meeting information, since it is handled very well by the TO website. The same thing applies to all our pages. We try not to duplicate information, not even the same links.
Our websites serve different purposes, but they both serve the interests of our citizens. The TO website is rather restricted in what they can publish, since they are a tool of the administration. They cannot post things like Flea Markets, movie theaters, utilities, articles or editorials. That's the void we are trying to fill. Our two websites are not opposing each other, they are complementing each other. We try to work as close as possible with the administration to inform our citizens.
As an unattached organization, the Union, Maine website is free to post articles and criticisms submitted by citizens. We live in the country of free speech. But we provide equal space to any and all opinions without favoritism. In fact, we encourage and welcome debate. America did not become great by one-sided remarks. Our forum is free and open to anyone, whether they choose to disclose their name or not.
Happy Holidays,
Nick |
